"Securing Europe's Energy Future, Maintaining Competitiveness and Tackling Climate Change"
July 2009
Energy and climate change continue to be major issues for Europe and indeed European industry.
The European Union has been progressive in recent years in ensuring that it remains at the vanguard of tackling climate change, but much remains to be done, both within the EU and globally.
With a view to securing Europe's energy future, maintaining competitiveness and supporting the rollout of the EU energy and climate change package, ERT has developed a set of position papers and thought pieces to support our continued engagement in the ongoing policy process.
ERT Letter to Commissioner Verheugen
January 2008
ERT Member Companies remain committed to Europe’s Energy and Climate Change objectives. However, in a letter sent to Commissioners Verheugen, Dimas and Piebalgs on 17 January 2007, ERT raises a number of concerns regarding the revision of the EU ETS due to be published on 23 January 2008. ERT outlines five issues that need to be considered as the EU sets out to tackle the growing problem of Climate Change.
Achieving Secure, Competitive and Clean Sustainable Energy
June 2007
Energy has become a major issue for Europe, and for European industry. Europe needs the security of a cost competitive supply, together with a positive contribution on the fight against climate change. As the European Union attempts to address this issue, it will need to set practical and attainable goals to gain the support of citizens, and to foster economic growth in a globalised economy.
The European Round Table of Industrialists (ERT) wishes to contribute to this growing debate by supporting the overall objective of secure, competitive and clean sustainable energy, and emphasises the need to link all three components together to secure future EU wealth and wellbeing.
ERT has identified, from an industrial perspective, the major issues faced by EU businesses when it comes to implementing meaningful policies dealing with Energy and Climate Change.
