Governance of Europe

MISSION :
This Working Group was active from May 2001 to October 2004.

It was initially chaired by Morris Tabaksblat (Reed Elsevier), who was then succeeded by Louis Schweitzer (Renault).

The Working Group followed the discussions on the Future of the European Union and the Constitutional Treaty. Its aim was to contribute to the public debate, highlighting industry's views on the improvements required in the EU's political architecture to enhance European competitiveness and economic integration. The Group closely followed the debate in the Convention on the Future of Europe and commented on issues of importance to industry when appropriate.

An initial statement was sent to the Laeken Summit in December 2001 ("A stronger Europe: The view from ERT"), and a detailed Discussion Paper was prepared in May 2002 as a follow-up and ERT's input into the debate on the Future of Europe.

The leaflet "European Governance for greater competitiveness" (November 2002) built on the views expressed in the earlier two publications, summarising and sharpening the main points of concern to ERT.
