MISSION :

Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy

This Working Group (initially called “ERT Enlargement Working Group”) was set up in 1997 and chaired for almost five years by Percy Barnevik (ABB/Investor AB). The Group pressed European and national leaders to proceed with enlargement negotiations for the sake of a more competitive and prosperous Europe. The Working Group continued to be very active under the chairmanship of Antony Burgmans (Unilever) from 2003 to 2007, accompanying the accessions of 12 new Member States to the EU, supporting the opening of accession negotiations with Turkey and spearheading ERT’s focus on the European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP). It also supported the Business Advisory Councils (BACs) in seven South-East European countries.

The Business Advisory Councils are now under the remit of the ERT Business Advisory Council Coordination Team, while the Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy agendas are covered by the ERT Foreign Economic Relations Working Group.
